The Sales Tax Act 1990 applies to all types of businesses involved in the import, export, sale, and purchase of goods. This means that anyone dealing with taxable goods in Pakistan, including zero-rated goods, is an importer; to send; a salesperson; or wholesalers must be registered with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for sales tax. FBR decides income tax returns and sales tax returns.

The Procedure Of Sales Tax Registration

Using the IRIS Portal, select Form 14(1) from the list at the top of the screen. After selecting an option, you will be prompted for the following information:

  • If someone is doing business in a time like 2023, please write your personal type, whether you are creative or something else. Choose from the options.
  • Business name, activity, address, etc. Enter business information.
  • In the case of Partnerships, AOPs, and Joint Stock Companies, please provide details of the Principal / Authorized Representative. Provide a bank account verification certificate.
  • IBAN number.
  • Enter the customer-specific number indicated on your gas and electricity bill and a photo of your electricity bill.
  • GPS-tagged photo of business location.
  • A temporary sales tax number will be given to you within a 30-day period.

NADRA’s E-Sahulat Center

After receiving your registration number, you must visit NADRA’s E-Sahulat Center within 30 days for biometric verification. If biometric verification fails, sales tax registration will be canceled and your name will be removed from the list of taxpayers working for sales tax.
